Giveaway: The Sound and the Echoes and author interview Dew Pellucid

The Sound and the Echoes, YA novel

The Sound and the Echoes by Dew Pellucid
The Sound and the Echoes is a high-concept, fantasy adventure for young adults, with 27 magical illustrations
Imagine that everyone around you has a mirror image living somewhere else. Your world is like a sound, which produced that other world of echoes. And in this land men are governed by a terrible law—no Echo is allowed to live after his Sound dies.
One Sound especially must die. The Prince’s Sound. The Fate Sealers and Fortune Tellers will make sure of that! Because after this Sound dies, the Echo Prince will have to die too.
Now, twelve-year-old Will Cleary is about to discover that he is the Sound the Echoes are hunting. And so begins his perilous adventure into a see-through, sparkling world, filled with spying crystal balls, an eerie fortress of castaway children, a hunt for clues in an ancient book of riddles, and a last-chance escape through a frozen gem-studded lake into a secret land that holds the key to placing the Prince on the throne and returning freedom to the Echoes.

Interview with Dew Pellucid, author of The Sound and the Echoes, a high concept fantasy for middle grade and young adult readers, with 27 magical illustrations.

--The Twitter version: tell us about your book in 140 characters or less.
See-through people… reflections of ourselves… echoes to our sounds. And a mighty riddle to solve.

--How did you get the idea for the story?
I was thinking of the philosopher Plato, of all people. But I reversed his logic. I made us his perfect Realm of the Forms. And then I created a reflection world that’s considered inferior to ours. If it sounds confusing just think of a place that’s like an echo to our sounds. Except that the Echo realm is really glistening and beautiful and fairytale-like.

--Which character would you most like to have dinner with?
Dew Pellucid. Both the author of The Sound and the Echoes and a secret character in it, this old Echo is full of surprises.

--What book(s) is your book’s “cousin”? (Similar set-up or style)
One reviewer called The Sound and the Echoes an: “alterior version of the Harry Potter series” (Lace and Lavender Hints Book Blog). Another reviewer said: “if you have a belief in alternate realities this is something that you will be able to connect with.” (History Fan book Blog).

--What are some of your favorite books? Do you still have much time to read?
I adore the Harry Potter series. And, yes! My face is often stuck in a book; albeit an electronic one lately.
--Besides writing, what do you like to do in your free time?
Play guitar and turn old poetry into songs.

--What is one thing you would tell your 15 year old self?
Life is deadly serious. But don’t forget how to smile.
--Is there anything else you want to add or say to your readers
Make every moment count. Your life is precious. Be the hero of your own journey. That’s why I wrote The Sound and the Echoes, to show that a twelve-year-old can be just as heroic as an adult.

My question to you, my lovely readers:
Do you think there could be parallel universes?

  1. The Sound and the Echoes sounds promising, and I don't think it will echo Harry Potter too closely. One can have too much of a good thing. I am one of the librarians in Japan tasked with finding newly published fiction to nominate for the annual Sakura Awards list. One of our last year's winner, Sharon Draper, honored us with a series of visits to our international schools in Tokyo!
